Sump / St. Louis, MO
Scott Carey grew up in St. Louis, but moved to New York City to work as a patent attorney. A visit to Ninth Street Espresso around 2006 altered his trajectory and his understanding of coffee. Carey travelled after his coffee revelation and eventually relocated back to St. Louis. In December of 2011, he opened Sump as a multi-roaster cafe. Less than 8 months year later he began roasting to have more consistency in his cafe space. “We always want to be pushing the envelope and reevaluating what it is we’re doing....creating an exceptional experience for the customer." - Scott Carey
